Curated by Diego Cortez, the SAMO show at Emilio Mazzoli’s gallery in Modena was Jean-Michel Basquiat’s first solo exhibition (either commercial or institutional).
While in Modena, Basquiat would produce some of his largest and most ambitious paintings. He returned early the following year for a planned second show which would ultimately not come to fruition.
