Now considered a critical exhibition which juxtaposed American and European Painters, Diego Cortez’ “Pressure to Paint” attracted criticism for its lack of women Artists and the catalogue’s grandiose prose. Nevertheless, by exhibiting at the prestigious Marlborough Gallery, which was known for representing legendary Artists and Estates such as Francis Bacon, Mark Rothko and Lynn Chadwick, Cortez put a seal of old-world prestige on this new generation of Painters.
