NEW YORK NOW

Organized by Carl Haenlein, then director of the Kestner-Gesellschaft, New York Now brought many of New York’s up-and-coming Artists to the attention of the German public for the second time that year (the first being Documenta 7 in Kassel which opened that June). Along with Jean-Michel Basquiat, Haenlein also selected John Ahearn, Lynda Benglis, Futura 2000, Judy Rifka, Julian Schnabel and many others in this multi-venue touring exhibition.

Interestingly, each venue that exhibited New York Now published its own catalogue. Thus, there are no less than 4 different iterations of the exhibition catalogue.
