“I wouldn't be surprised if I died like a boxer, really broke, but somehow I doubt it.” - Jean-Michel Basquiat (p. 36)Art in America, October 1982

Suzi Gablik’s comprehensive discussion of Graffiti Art included interviews with Artists Keith Haring, Fred Brathwaite, Futura 2000 and Jean-Michel Basquiat, among others associated with the Street-Art scene. It is likely Basquiat’s contribution was the first time he had been quoted in a publication outside of his SAMO© persona.
Additionally, Lisa Liebmann reviews Jean-Michel’s first solo show at Annina Nosei Gallery noting that the works on paper are stronger and more ‘menacing’ than the canvases.
