“I wouldn't be surprised if I died like a boxer, really broke, but somehow I doubt it.” - Jean-Michel Basquiat (p. 36)
Literary REview: BRAND NEW YORK, FALL 1982
out of stock
In honor of the ICA London’s Autumn 1982 focus on the New York Art Scene “ICA:NY”, the monthly Literary Review published a special issue titled Brand New York. This included Suzi Gablik’s “Graffiti in Well-Lit Rooms,” a slight expansion of her October article for Art in America which included interviews with Artists Keith Haring, Fred Brathwaite, Futura 2000 and Jean-Michel Basquiat, among others associated with the Street-Art scene. It is likely Basquiat’s contribution was the first time he had been quoted in a publication outside of his SAMO© persona.
There is also a photograph of a model wearing one of Basquiat’s painted outfits under his SAMO© moniker.
